mlk day

On monday our school decided to collect money for the poor. No other school in the area was open because of this wonderfull guy’s life. But our school said “well, we might as well do something helpfull and kind to help people in need. That’s what MLK would do.” We stood out in the freezing cold and asked people to donate food, clothes, toys, and other varous items. Many people were kind and donated to people who are less fortunate, we had a big commuity concert for free in our gym afterwards. Lots of musicians took their time and money to come and play for free, even i sang for people. I had a great day, i think that giving to the less forunate is the right thing to do.

1/21/16 yogurt

Today we made yogurt, i was partenered with Sophia. Shane assiged us a project where we had to find out if its the lactid acid that made the yogurt. So, Sophia and I decided to see if it really was the lactid acid the milk that made it. We put regular milk in one jar, and almond milk in another jar. Almond milk has no lactic acid, since the almond milk has no lactic acid then it will not make yogurt.

this is a picture of how we make it

This week we teamed up with some of the other classes. Why you ask, we are selling bulbs for rasing money for the school. We sell them at pathfunder, or a fundraiser for our school. We took 3 bulbs a container and filled them with pebbles and water. This is a picture of what they look like. IMG_5120

October 28th

This week we did this thing on genetics. We made dragons and how they looked according to the coin, the coin had recessive and dominant genes. Most of mine were recessive genes, so mine was made of Styrofoam balls and straws. To calculate the genes we used a thing called a punnet square, which looks like this.

punnett_1_answers also our dragons had babies and we mixed her genes and my dragons genes to make our baby dragons: Floyd and Blurple.  Also we made a story, i was teamed up with Annabelle Arens.

this is our story.

The Story of Benedict and Stomegehen

As he strolls along the ear of the Icelandic elephant rock, Benedict sees the tall, spiked dragon, and very casually, asks this casual question:

“Well. I didn’t expect to see another dragon here. What brings you to this naturally formed elephant rock?”   “Oh, nothing,” Stomegehen replies casually. “Just doing some early morning elephant rock…  strolling.”

Benedict, entranced by these romantic words, says this:

“That is exactly what I’m doing! We must have some kind of connection!”

And they did, so after many weeks of romantic taco brunches and rock strolling, the star-crossed lovers were at the top taco joint in Mexico. Benedict in a top hat and  Stomegehen in a tux . Stomegehen got down on one knee, and suddenly, they were married and happily settled in an elephant shaped home. After another month, a magical crocodile comes to deliver their perfect child. Floyd.

“He has my horns.” Said Benedict tearfully.

“And my fire breath.” Adds Stomegehen.

“Well yes” says the magical crocodile, “The combination of your genes would be passed down to your offspring to contribute to the child’s inherited appearance, or phenotype—”

“Nobody asked you, magical crocodile!” yelled the family in unison. And they all lived a life full of love and happiness.

And the n Blurple was born.

alleopathy

Oct 19-23

This week we did a sort of assessment. Since our school is really cool, we did a scavenger hunt based on our knowledge. At our school we do this kind of stuff instead of tests.  I think it is more effective because we can do it hands on and  it will be something to remember. The kind of stuff we did was:  looking for types of plants, identifying plants, and telling what types of plants they are. she also did little riddles like a hint to something weird we talked about or finding a plant that is spelled backwards.

What this picture is is the study of alleopathic plants that we did. IMG_4804 (1) We finished up our alleopathic plant experiment this week,  Sophie and i’s prediction was that the alleopathic broccoli was going to stop the germination of the kale seeds. We were somewhat right but the kale still grew a little. The one that was clean and had no poison had 100% germination, but the poisoned one had 30% germination. We were thinking about putting the broccoli in the grass but we decided no to.

science grass won’t grow

grass

Monday Sept 28

In science we are doing a project on plants (grass). In class we took two grasses: grass that grow well in the sun, and a grass that grows well in the shade. The grass in the shade seemed to grow better in the light and shade rather than the sun which didn’t even grow. this week in science that’s what we found out and we think that either we got bad seeds, or they will only grow in sunlight.

fall fest loom

Friday Oct 9

This Friday in science we decided to go collect plants with the fifth graders. We picked plants to put in a loom that got all dry and started to decay. We went all over campus, but it was really fun when we went into the moat of cattails. It was like a maze inside the moat and we were screaming like idiots, it was the most fun time i had that week.  Now since we collected all of the plants the loom is absolutely beautiful and i am very proud to be at my school.
